Tristan und Isolde is widely acknowledged as one of the peaks of the operatic repertory. The opening phrase changed the course of operatic composition. Inspired by his adulterous affair with a silk merchant's wife, Wagner set aside the partly composed Ring cycle, to write this epic to love.
Tristan und Isolde is Grange Park Opera's first Wagnerian production, directed and designed by David Fielding and featuring projection by Dick Straker. So far it has received numerous four and five star reviews with The Telegraph noting the 'often strikingly beautiful imagery'.
