The Absence of War

  • Touring, UK, 2015

It’s now or never for George Jones. The charismatic leader of the Labour Party needs to get out of opposition and into Number Ten. Headlong presents a vigorous new production of David Hare’s funny, stinging political drama on a timely national tour during the build up to the 2015 General Election.

Set during the 1992 general election, the show featured faked archive footage featuring the cast, choreographed to happen in synchronisation with the live action. Thus, the sparse set provides an abstracted memory of the events of the election, while the ‘real’ archive footage fills in the details.

This was presented on 14 period television sets and occasionally filmed live with three period Link 130 TV cameras.
