Events & Production

The array of technology available for the creation, presentation and control of images and effects expands and develops continually. Mesmer has close supply contacts with developers and suppliers of popular systems and contributes to their ongoing development. We commission and integrate bespoke software and hardware for productions that require more than existing systems can provide.

But most crucially, Mesmer consults independently of rental and manufacturing companies whose subjective advice is often without a design sensibility.

We are happy to advise on the following and much more:

  • Media servers and systems including Catalyst, Hippotizer, Mesmerist, Pandora's Box etc .....
  • Creative and technical content production with After Effects, FCP, Photoshop, Cinema4D etc ...
  • Projection techniques utilising custom screens, mirrors, rigging devices, optical illusions...

  • Portrait of a Nation

Portrait of a Nation required the use of both Catalyst and Encore to deliver the variety of pre-recorded and live feeds to the screen. The format of the screen and the use of both front and overhead cameras meant that there was no consistent aspect ratio and content had to be processed through Catalyst before being composited in Encore. Camera feeds of performers were keyed into their animations and overhead camera shots were projected onto the screen to mirror the stage choreography.

Dick Straker co-ordinated the content and programming with Ian Galloway programming and controlling Catalyst live whilst Jonathan Bond programmed Encore. Ray G Williams directed cameras.
