Guardians of the Galaxy: The Live Immersive Experience

Secret Cinema return with a colossal new immersive world based on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Audience members join their chosen Ravager Clan and compete to be Clan of the Galaxy in an immerive world filled with high-tech video technology

Every Guardian has to be present, so we worked with Disney Studio Labs and Framestore to bring Rocket Raccoon to life as living character, created using Unreal Engine and Apple ARKit Facial Tracking so that a live actor could ‘puppet’ Rocket and interact in realtime with the audience, guiding them through the experience.
We also created the hub of the competition - the Clan scoring system. As each audience member completes tasks, trades Earth Treasures or rescues stolen items, their units earned can be added to their Clan’s score, displayed across the world. We built the scoring system as a Unity app, feeding into an Unreal visualisation setup and then onwards into the show control system.
And as well as all that, we also created everything else seen on-screen, from in-world adverts and news reports, to the view of space from Knowhere’s viewing platform, to realising and programming a sequence of visual and lighting effects to accompany the movie!
