Kes Reimagined

A dance theatre re-imagining of the modern classic ‘A Kestrel for a Knave’ by Barry Hines, this film production is based on Jonathan Watkins 2014 production of Kes and adapts it for screen.

Combining a compelling musical score, projected imagery, movement, and heartrending performances, Kes is a special and fast-moving experience for people of all ages.

With its themes still relevant today – family relationships, education, opportunities, weaknesses and hidden strengths – Kes shows the unfolding of a special bond between boy and bird set in a Yorkshire mining community.

Co-produced by the BBC and The Space for cinema and TV release in 2019, with projected imagery filmed and edited by Dan Denton.
