La Bohème

Puccini’s tragic classic is transported to 1960’s New York and the pop art scene of Warhol’s Factory. Marcello is the film maker in the artist’s collective and his experimental output the video design of Dick Straker. Dick worked with 16mm film and 35mm photography in the 1980’s club scene in London and the visions of Marcello’s output are based on a working knowledge of a similar setup. Marcello and Musetta’s tempestuous relationship is glimpsed through the filmed revelations as she becomes the subject of his inspiration and desire.

The projection design resulted in a close collaboration with Cordelia Chisholm to ensure the video technology is hidden whilst we see the functioning film technology working on stage.
