Sun and Star Princess

MESMER has been working with Princess since 2023 to design the public spaces aboard two of their largest ships - Sun Princess and Star Princess.

The latest generation of cruise ships are filled with spacious, open public spaces - all of which include large scale LED screens, all of which are active 24/7. Mesmer have been working with Princess since 2023 to design a consistent, brand-friendly selection of content for these spaces. The result is an installation piece that runs on it's own internal schedule, varying from day to day and continent to continent, slowly shifting and adapting to the mood of the day, with specific states geared towards intimate cocktail evenings, sunrise sessions, and late-night parties, and broken up by 'Glockenspiel moments' - audiovisual animated sequences that activate the spaces, turning them into clockwork calendars, butterfly houses or magical gardens.

Creating this requires close collaboration with both Princess' existing branding and marketing, but also with the technical teams onboard, who need to be able to run entertainment events on top of the existing footage, easily switch the space into a show state, and keep the system running in any time zone.

All of this requires considerable logistical planning and liaison with the client. We have been working closely with the Princess Cruises Entertainment team, with branding, and with a wide range of external directors, choreographers, production companies and vendors to make sure that all the shows could be programmed, stores and operated easily by the onboard crew. MESMER provides technical planning, programmers and on-site crew, and off-site support for both Sun Princess and Star Princess, and also various shows deployed across the Princess cruise line.

Since designing the system originally for Sun Princess in late 2023, Mesmer have created themed holiday versions of the content, rolled the system out onto the latest ship, Star Princess, and even re-formatted their content for inclusion across the entire fleet.
